Mr. Fred Robert Mickey, 86, of Mocksville passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born August 2, 1924 in Surry County to Sidney Franklin and Martha Barber Mickey. Mr. Mickey was a member of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church where he was past president of the Fellowship Class and served on the visitors committee. He served in the men's and women's class in later years. He was also in the National Guard from 1940-1945, was a member of Goodtimers Square Dancers, and loved softball and baseball. He drove a bus for Duke Power for 17 years, and afterwards was a security guard at Western Electric. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Sidney G. Mickey; and a sister, Mildred Livengood. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee and Dianne Mickey of Hobbsville; two grandsons, Patrick and Kyle; nieces and nephews, Alvin and Martha Garrison, Ruby and Don Embler, Ann and Grover Winstead, Ellen Hodges, Wayne Mickey, Ronnie and Pam Mickey, David and Donna Mickey. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 5 at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church with the Rev. Jeff Coppage officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 4 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
