OAK RIDGE- Franklin ""Frank"" Yost, 83, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at his home. Frank was born in Stokes County on June 24, 1931 to Homer and Mary Ray Yost, the second of five children.
Frank spent his early life working on the family farm raising tobacco. He later served four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Juneau during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1951 he spent the next 40 plus years working in textiles. In addition to his full time work, he was a lifetime farmer and owner/operator of Ma and Pa's Strawberries.
Frank was a charter member of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, serving faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent and deacon for over 30 years. He was also awarded ""Father of the Year"" in 2005.
In his free time, Frank enjoyed hunting on the farm and had a passion for fishing. He always looked forward to an annual Outer Banks fishing trip with his family. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and loved the North Carolina Tarheels. His greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time with his family and having them over for cookouts. In all aspects, Frank is an example of a life well lived.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Roy and Billy; his infant son, John Homer; and his son-in-law, Rick Brown.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Beulah Lester Yost; his sons, Junior (LaRena) and Eddie (Brenda); daughters, Debbie Brown and Donna Surrette (Fred); grandchildren, April and Derek (Heather), Cory (Allison), Micah (Angela), Andy (Tammy), Amber Middleton (Brian), Hunter, Big Shane and Little Shane Surrette; great-grandchildren Jacob, Mackenzie, and Logan and Landis Middleton.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge with Dr. Roy Carter and Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405. Without them, Frank would not have been able to enjoy his final days at home. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
