On July 4, 2023 at approximately 2:00 am our beloved Franklin Delano Miller, Sr. peacefully made the transition into eternal rest and life everlasting at Hospice Home of High Point. Franklin’s journey of life began December 28, 1934. He was the offspring of the late Paul and Louise Miller born in Greensboro, North Carolina. He attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Laughlin High School in Summerfield, NC and North Carolina A&T State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 23 years of Dedicated Service. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1981. He was awarded the Defense Logistics Agency Award 1979-1981 and the United States Defense Department Award in 1981.

After Retirement from the US Army, Franklin returned to North Carolina where he began and completed his education; earning a bachelor’s degree in social work. At the same time, Franklin was employed at Greensboro Urban Ministry. He was the first Director of the Urban Ministry Night Shelter where he remained until retiring after 24 years of service. He worked there from 1982 until his retirement in 2006. He was awarded the outstanding service award in 1992 by the NAACP of Greensboro Branch, Dedication of Service award by One Step Further, Dedication and Appreciation award for services rendered.

He was a faithful member of Collins Grove United Methodist Church all of his life. He was a former Sunday School teacher, chairman of the administrative council, trustee chair, pastor parish, and church lay leader.

He met and married his wife of 64 years, Peggy Taylor Miller of Summerfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Louise; four brothers; four sisters.

As his presence was felt, so will it be greatly missed and cherished by his children, Frank Miller, Jr. of Summerfield (Melanie), Monique Miller Coble (Rodney), and Marcus Miller both of Summerfield, NC; grandchildren, Drew Coble of Charlotte and Chelsey Harris (Gabe) of Charlotte, Taylor and Sydney Miller of Summerfield, and Toccara Miller of Greensboro; and great grandson, Aiden Armstrong of Greensboro. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Paul Miller, Jr., Ronnie Miller, Bobby Miller, Katie Miller, and Rosemary Alston all of Greensboro, NC.; and other cherished relatives and a multitude of friends.

A funeral service for Franklin will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Collins Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Reginald Yourse officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Collins Grove United Methodist Church at 5210 Collins Grove Church Road, Greensboro, NC 27410. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
