Frank E. Hartis, Jr.

Winston-Salem-Mr. Frank E. Hartis, Jr. went to be with his Lord Monday night, May 2, 2011. Frank was the son of the late Frank E. and Selma Ward Hartis of Durham, NC. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Thames Hartis. He is survived by two sons, Frank E. Hartis, III and Mark R. Hartis, a daughter-in-law Leigh Anne Hartis, and his grand-daughter, Taylor Hartis. He has two sisters, Dorothy Hunter of Butner, NC and Ruth Caddell, of Durham, NC. Mr. Hartis served his country during the Korean War and was awarded a service medal. He retired from Noland Company in 1988 with over 40 years of service and began to devote his free time to golf and playing cards. He enjoyed golf and was a longtime member and past President of Pine Brook Country Club, where he was lovingly known as the ""Mayor"" of Pine Brook. Frank supported many charities, but Samaritan's Purse was a favorite. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Friday, May 6, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplain Paul Mullen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Frank was a long time member of Ardmore Baptist Church, and in lieu of flowers the family asks all donations go to Ardmore Baptist Church 501 Miller St. Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would also like to thank those friends and medical staff of Forsyth Medical Center who gave such good care to Mr. Hartis.
