Mr. Frank Elwood Chaplin, 84, of Cornatzer Rd. in Mocksville, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 25, 1924 in Davie County to William Walker and Ada Rose Phelps Chaplin. Mr. Chaplin retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1983 with 25 years of service. He spent the last 25 years of his life raising cattle, working in his garden, cutting wood, tinkering with his tractors, and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Chaplin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Maxine Long and Iva Nell Swain and a brother, Arnold Chaplin. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lavinia ""Bennie"" Slawter Chaplin; a son, Dale Chaplin and wife Wendy of Advance; a daughter, Frankie Chaplin; two grandsons, Jonathan Dale and Michael Elliot Chaplin of Advance; a brother, Sam Chaplin and wife Janie of Mocksville; a sister Inez Howard of Mocksville and many loving nieces and nephews. The service to celebrate Mr. Chaplin's life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31 at Cornatzer Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Beverly and Rev. Pat Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Nephews and his grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends and family this evening, January 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
