Ms. Frances L. Woollen, 84, of Winston-Salem known to everyone as ""Granny"" passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. She was born on July 1, 1924 in Lynchburg, VA. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Marie Elizabeth Moran, a sister, Virginia Simpson and a grandson, Brandon Dwayne Moran. She was formerly employed by Pellcare Nursing Home and was a longtime resident of Healy Towers. She enjoyed shopping, lemon cookies and coffee and putting her toes in the ocean. She was surrounded by wonderful and loving family and friends. She is survived by four sons, David Woollen (Brenda), Tommy Woollen (Donna) both of Pensacola, FL, and Danny Woollen and Bobby Woollen both of Winston-Salem. She is also survived by her daughter, caretaker and ""Best Friend"" Shirley Lumley (Tim) of the home. Also a devoted caretaker who was more like family, Samantha ""Chug"" Able. Also a wonderful friend, Bob Dowell and three very special grandchildren, Cammy Renee Woollen (Brian), Bobby Scot Lumley and Bobby Ray Woollen, Jr. of Winston-Salem. Ms. Woollen had 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 12:00 noon at the new Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Jeff Dowell and Rev. Charles Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
