Frances Southern Walker

Walker Mrs. Frances Southern Walker, 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, December 05, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Asheville, NC to James Claude and Emma Reynolds Banister on October 12, 1923. Mrs. Walker graduated from Hanes High School and was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. She was an avid weather watcher and enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and football. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Frances truly enjoyed the holidays and made Christmas special for everyone. She will be remembered as a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her first husband, Ed Southern; and her second husband, Charlie Walker; two sisters, Jean Buchanan and Margaret Wright. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Kelly and husband Curtis of Clemmons; and two sons, Bob Southern and wife Suzette, and Mike Southern, all of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Drew Southern officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home. The family would like to send a special thank you to her caregivers, Alexis, Brenda, Ashley, Mandie, Susan, and Pam; and special neighbors Rick and David, for their compassion and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
