Mrs. Frances Hill Newton, 87, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Brookridge Retirement Community. She was born September 11, 1922 in Hertford County to Burleigh and Edna Pope Hill. Mrs. Newton was a member of College Park Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Howard Newton; and two sisters, Billie Kiff and Beryl Winslow. Surviving are two daughters, Bonita Pearson and husband Mike of Winston-Salem and Lynn Hamel and husband George of Jupiter, FL; four grandchildren, Michael Pearson and wife Regina of Winston-Salem, Whitney Pearson and James Freeman of South Amboy, NJ, Andrew Hamel and Evan Hamel, both of Jupiter, FL; two sisters, Mary Britton of Ahoskie, and Iona Richardson of Ft. Worth, TX; and one brother, Burleigh Hill of Norfolk, VA. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2 at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk, VA. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4 at College Park Baptist Church with Dr. Ramon Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brookridge Retirement Community Kulynych Appreciation Fund, 1199 Hayes Forest Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
