Frances "Nanny" Mankins

Mrs. Frances Lillian Smith Mankins, ""Nanny"", 86, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Nanny was born on December 23, 1927 in Patrick County, VA to Edward Hoke and Eliza Ann Boyd Smith. Nanny was raised in the Moravian faith, but was baptized in the Baptist faith as an adult. She enjoyed NASCAR and was a fan of UNC Basketball. Nanny was a wonderful cook and especially loved to cook for her family.

In addition to her parents, Nanny was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Mankins; two sisters, Opal Ayers and Mary Montgomery; and four brothers, Ed, Frank, R.C. and Jack Smith.


Surviving are six children, Bill Mankins and wife, Marilyn of Lewisville, Diane Franklin and husband, Danny of Pfafftown, Larry Mankins and wife, Reba of King, Gary Mankins and wife, Jane of Walnut Cove, Randy Mankins and wife, Pam of Winston-Salem, Rick Mankins and wife, Tami of Kernersville; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Hill and husband Rick, Susan Peters, Jenny Macemore and husband Kirk, Rebecca Williams and husband Harold, Crystal Shupe and husband Jeremy, Scott T. Mankins and wife Michelle, Josh Doss, Joshua and Tyler Mankins, Cortney and Cydney Mankins; 9 great grandchildren, Andrew, Olivia, Eliza and Ian Hill, Noah and Jonah Macemore, Zoey and Hayden Mankins, and Blake Mankins; one sister, Margaret Davis and husband, George; two brothers, Wayne Smith and wife, Mary and Charles Smith and wife, Vonn.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Pete Kunkle officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, at the funeral home.
