Mrs. Frances Edna Marsh Hicks, 88, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, September 25, 2009 at Springwood Care. She was born in Forsyth County on August 16, 1921 to the late Floyd Hampton and Nora Annice White Marsh. She was a charter member of the First Church of the Living God, now known as Faith Chapel, for 75 years. Mrs. Hicks was very active at Faith Chapel, while her health permitted. She was part of the Church Trio, a piano player for over 40 years, choir member, and very active in church fundraisers or any church activity. Mrs. Hicks was the co-founder of Happy Travelers Club and led numerous tours across Canada and the United States. She retired from Oak Summit Elementary School as the School Nutritionist. Mrs. Hicks was truly a people person who devoted much of her time and energy to helping others. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Alice, Dorothy, and Mary, and a brother Arvol. Mrs. Hicks is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, John A. Hicks of Springwood Care; a son Ricky Hicks and wife Lena of Port-au-Prince, Haiti; a sister Peggy Whisenant and husband James of Advance; two granddaughters Tabitha Hicks of Mocksville and Heather Hicks of Advance; a step granddaughter, Katya Hicks of Miami, FL; two great-grandchildren Roxanna Barney and Jakob Cable; and a very loving and devoted niece who cared for her for the last five years, Pat Carlton of Kernersville. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Dr. Joe Long and Rev. Wesley Tuttle officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Monday at the funeral home.
