Frances Harrold Lanier Bovender

Mrs. Frances Harrold Lanier Bovender, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Trinity Elms Rehab in Clemmons. Frances was born August 1, 1921, in Winston-Salem to the late Finley R. Harrold and Ruth Long Harrold. She graduated from South High (formerly James A. Gray) School as president of her class in 1938. Mrs. Bovender was married for 35 years to David S Lanier, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1975. At age 70 she married her childhood friend Chester Bovender and after 20 years of marriage was widowed again in 2012. Frances was loved by everyone she met. Her first job was with Brown Rogers Dixon and then with the Carbon Plant during World War II. She retired from Sears Roebuck and Co after 30 years of employment in the Children's Department and was a member of the Sears Retiree Group. Frances is survived by her four children, Bonnie Lanier Smith, Rebecca Dawson (Tom), Philip J. Lanier (Colleen) all of Winston-Salem, and David Lanier, Jr. (Phyllis) of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren, John Dawson, III (Sara) of Los Angeles, CA, David L. Dawson (Pamela) of Nashville TN, and Philip R. Lanier (Cora Beth) of Raleigh, NC; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Carter, Ethan, and Sophia Dawson, all of Los Angeles, CA; her beloved sister, Edna H. Grubbs of Arbor Acres; and her extended family the Bovenders. Frances had many friends she cherished and from whom she received many visits, calls and cards which brightened her days. She loved her church, Ardmore Baptist, where she was an active member of the Lydia Class until she became homebound. The family wishes to thank Senior Services' Homecare and Millicent Cunningham for their help and the Home Ministry of Ardmore Baptist Church for all their support and prayers. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Don Gordon officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
