Frances Johnson Binkley passed away Monday, January 4, 2010 surrounded by her loving daughters and sons-in-law. Mrs. Binkley was born on August 27, 1919 to Silas Marion and Emma Anderson Johnson. The youngest of five children, she spent her early life in Walnut Cove, then met and married ""her sweetheart,"" Raymond Binkley on May 22, 1940. They spent 64 wonderful years in the Walkertown, Winston-Salem and Clemmons areas. Mrs. Binkley worked for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System for 26 years, loving ""all her children"" as she served as a cashier in the Wiley Middle School Cafeteria. She was very active in the formation of the Forsyth County chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and in 1976, was presented the Charles L. McCullers Silver Cup Award given to the North Carolina Cystic Fibrosis Volunteer of the Year. Mrs. Binkley was a founding member of Parkway United Church of Christ and years later, became a member of Fries Memorial Moravian Church. She played an active role at Fries as long as her health permitted and loved making Chicken Pies and participating in her Circle group. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Club, serving on the Board for several years. Mrs. Binkley will be remembered for her kindness, her sweet spirit, her gentle strength and her love for her family and her God. Mrs. Binkley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond Emerson Binkley, her daughter, Dianne Binkley King, her granddaughter, Erin Blair King, her son-in-law, Thomas Baxter Fletcher, brothers Ed, Emmett and Arthur Johnson, and her beloved sister Bertie Johnson Bowman. Survivors include daughters Jean Binkley Thrower and husband Bill, and Betty Binkley Fletcher Ashby and husband Lonnie, all of Clemmons; son-in-law Jim King and wife Mary Jane of Oak Ridge; grandchildren Bryan King of High Point, Mark Fletcher of Winston-Salem, Laura Ashby and Ben Ashby of Clemmons; and Staff Sgt. Chad Ashby of Little Rock AFB, Arkansas; Stacey Hall and husband Stuart of Wake Forest; Kelly Kilian and husband Michael of Norlina; Kevin Thrower of Raleigh; and Stacy Barham of Stokesdale; great-grandchildren Dylan Wells, and Bryce and Riley Hall of Wake Forest, Laura, Catherine and Johnny Kilian of Norlina, and Barret and Callie Ashby of Little Rock. Also surviving is a special sister-in-law Mary Ruth Binkley of Winston-Salem and several special nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Mrs. Binkley will be held at Fries Memorial Moravian Church on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 3pm, with the Rev. Dr. Worth Green officiating, and Rev. Patricia Garner assisting. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00pm Wednesday, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
