Mr. Foster Wood ""Woody"", 90, of Walnut Cove passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Wood was born in Wilkes County on January 10, 1920 to John McKinnley and Bessie Teeter Wood. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as the youngest Master Sergeant for the US Army -Air Force. Woody was a lifelong member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. He truly loved life and enjoyed every moment he spent with his family and friends, often hosting fish fries and BBQs. Woody was an avid fisherman, had a passion for bee keeping and farming. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lola Foster Wood; two sisters, Carlene Clore and Rubye Williams; two brothers, Robert Wood and Billy Ray Wood; and three sons-in-law, Dwayne Goff, Robert Swanson, and Marshall McGee. Mr. Wood is survived by his loving wife Maria R. Grion Wood of the home; five daughters, Pat Swanson (Ted) of Winston- Salem, Glenda Goff of Walkertown, Rebecca McGee of Manteo, Dean Berry (Chris) of Winston-Salem, and Susan Thompson (Alan) of Stokesdale; a stepdaughter, Cristina O'Neal (Braxton II) of Raleigh; a stepson, Antonio Grion of Asheville; three sisters, Joan Brown of Yadkinville, Edna Mondragon and Lynda Mondragon, both CA; a brother, John Wood of Belews Creek; and revered by 13 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild; as well as numerous devoted nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Chatman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
