Forrest Eugene Rhyne, 92, of Rural Hall, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2014. He was born in Forsyth County on May 14, 1921, and was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Franklin & Pearl Hester Reed Rhyne. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Lester Rhyne, and is survived by a sister, Mrs. Helen Hutchins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Singleton Rhyne, and his second wife, Nina Lee Padgett Rogers Rhyne. He had two children, a daughter, Kathy Lynne Woods, deceased, and a son, Terry R. Rhyne, of Chambersburg, PA. He is also survived by a stepson, Joel P. Rogers, of Chico, California. He has two grandchildren, Heather Lowman and Matthew Rhyne, and several great-grandchildren. Gene graduated from Mineral Springs High School. After graduation, he served three years in the United States Army during the later years of World War II. He worked many years of his life as a plumber, and would happily point out the many churches, schools and homes where he installed the original plumbing. During his life, Gene was an active member of Northwoods Baptist Church, where he started the choir. He was faithful with their church visitation program, and on one particular evening, he invited a new young family in the area -- Leon Rogers, his wife, Nina & and their daughter, Robyn Marie. Gene also spent many years at Woodland Baptist Church, served on the school board for Woodland Baptist Christian School, sang in the choir, worked tirelessly for the Bus Ministry, and went visiting every opportunity he had. He attended Freedom Baptist Church for several years and worked there for many years, also singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, working with the youth, and visiting, visiting, visiting. In his later years, he and Nina returned to Woodland Baptist Church, where he continued to work to bring people to church, and in total, he spent seventy years of his life bringing people to meet God. Gene dearly loved his church, his family and friends, peanut butter, chopping firewood, his Bible, his country, and his Savior. The visitation will be held at Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall, on Friday, February 7, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. The funeral, also at the church, will begin immediately following the visitation at 11:30 AM officiated by Rev. Tim Gammons. Immediately following the funeral, there will be a private family interment at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.
