Florence Inman Stokes Saylor, 96, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Heritage Woods Senior Living.
Mrs. Saylor was born November 21, 1928, in Surry County, to John McKinley Inman and Donie Arrington Inman. She grew up on a tobacco farm near Pilot Mountain with 8 siblings, graduated from Flat Rock High School at age 16 and then from Draughon’s Business College in Winston-Salem a year later. She had a career as a secretary that spanned 43 years before retiring from the National Labor Relations Board in 1988. She had tireless energy and a stellar work ethic, raising two children while managing a home and a career. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, quilting, and sewing custom tote bags. She was devoted to her family and her church, attending Calvary Baptist Church for several years. Throughout her life, she cherished her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Olen Lee Stokes Sr. and later by her husband of 9 years, James Carl Saylor; three brothers, Gaither Inman, Cabot Inman, and Bernie Inman; and four sisters, Mavis Chilton, Opal Holt, Rada Martin, and Bernice Goins.
Surviving are her son, Olen Lee Stokes Jr.; her daughter, Dena Stokes Moye (Robert); one stepson, Greg Saylor (Terry); two stepdaughters, Debbie Saylor Harris (Tommy), and Carol Saylor Gossett (J.R.); three grandchildren, Heather Stokes Farmer (Eric), Brian Stokes, and Lindsey Moye Carter (Halcott); and one brother, Larry Inman (Ann).
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Hayworth-Miller Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC, with The Rev. Lt. Cmdr. Halcott Carter officiating. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, 6135 Ridgecrest Drive, Winston-Salem, NC.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Heritage Woods Associate Appreciation Fund, 3812 Forrestgate Dr, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, to honor those that cared for Florence for the last 8 years.
