Florence Emerson Long

Mrs. Florence Emerson Long, 77, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born August 2, 1937 the daughter of the late Arthur and Inez Banton Emerson. Mrs. Long was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Tobaccoville. She was retired from the Veterans Administration in Winston-Salem where she had won achievements for her quality of work, efficiency and length of service. Prior to working for the VA she had been employed by Talley's Florist in King. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Emerson, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Long, Sr. of the home, three daughters; Deborah L. Doub and husband Wes of Tobaccoville, Jennifer L. Way of Tobaccoville and Melinda L. Byck and husband Edwin of Savannah, GA, a son; Robert Long, Jr. of Tobaccoville, seven grandchildren; Jonathan Doub (Katie), Kristal Doub, David Doub, Nathan Long, Samuel Taylor (Beth), Adam Byck and David Byck, two great-grandchildren; Jackson and Kobe Doub, one sister; Lois Blatto (Nick) of Powhatan, VA and two brothers; Ray Stinson (Lynn) and Franklin ""Winky"" Emerson both of Powhatan, VA. Funeral services for Mrs. Long will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church with Pastor Jenna Grogan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 this evening, Saturday, June 27th at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Tobaccoville.
