Florence Aitchison Crouse, 97, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, October 8, 2010 at Salemtowne Moravian Retirement Community. She was born in Winston-Salem on January 11, 1913 to Harry F. Aitchison and Ella M. Aitchison. Her husband Luther W. Crouse preceded her in death in 1999 and one sister, Mildred A. Strickland. She attended the Winston-Salem public schools graduating from Reynolds High School in 1929 and from Salem College in 1933. She taught first grade in Central, Moore and Brunson Schools for 37 years. She was a life-long member of First Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honorary teacher's society. Surviving are a son, William Harry Crouse; two grandchildren, Catherine W. Gorrell of Boca Raton, Fl. and Robert W. Gorrell and wife Jesica of Winston-Salem; a niece, Mary Jo Morris and husband Owen of Palmetto, Fl; a nephew Thomas H. Strickland and wife Dottie of Palmetto, Fl; and all children associated. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Salem Cemetery by Dr. David Hughes. The family will receive friends following the service.
