Floreine (Flo) Bivens Johnston, 99, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2023. She was born in Wadesboro, North Carolina on July 18, 1923, to the late Walter Hurley Bivens and Sallie Frances Winfree Bivens. Mrs. Johnston was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville, North Carolina. During World War II, she assisted many as a nurse in the U.S. Navy. During her time in the service, she met her husband. She spent many years as a dental assistant. You could always find Flo needle crafting and gardening. She was an avid volunteer throughout her life and served many positions with the United Methodist Women in Missouri and North Carolina. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Floreine is preceded in death by her Husband, Waymon (Johnny) Norway Johnston, Jr. and three siblings, Charles Bivens, Martha Bivens, and Patsy Bivens Darcey.
Left to cherish her memory are three children, Phylis Johnston Blackmon and husband Harold Blackmon, of Murphy, North Carolina, Samuel Aron Johnston and wife Michele Johnston, of Shallotte, North Carolina, and Cynthia Johnston Lomax and husband, William Lomax, of Charlotte, North Carolina, three grandchildren, Jennifer Johnston Francis and husband, Michael Francis, Sarah Elizabeth Blackmon and fiancé, Wade West, and Michael Aaron Blackmon and wife Sarah Alison Blackmon, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Al Ward officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 306 South Main Street, Kernersville, North Carolina 27284 or Regency Hospice, 350 Main Street, Hiawassee, Georgia 35046. Hayworth-Miller is assisting the family.
