Mrs. Flora Olene Kibby Brown, of ""the Vineyards"" Lexington passed away Tuesday, peacefully at home with her beloved family. She was born March 18, 1914, in Transylvania County, the daughter of the late Wood and Macy Pierson Hinkle. Mrs. Brown was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Welcome. She was an accomplished Author of Poems written about her life experiences. She was a gifted seamstress and loved all kinds of needle work. She loved to paint in the later years of her life and had a special love of native plants. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Edwina Kibby. She is survived by her beloved husband of 28 years, Bobby Brown of Lexington. Her pet dogs, Buffy and Gidget; her son, Ted Wilbanks (Shirley) of Spring Hill, FL; stepchildren, Barry Brown (Beth) and Timothy Brown (Gloria), John Kibby (Sue) of Jacksonville, FL, Judy Melton (Larry) of Asheville and Judy Finn of Orange City, FL; grandchildren, Donna Owens, T. E. Wilbanks, Nichols Brown, Alex Brown, Lori Cohen, John Kibby, Jr., Glen Braska and Linda Whitten all of Jacksonville, FL, Beth Griffin of Spartanburg, SC, Butch Freeman of Black Mountain and D. L. Gallenkamp of DeLand, FL; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a brother, Woody Hinkle of Machais, MA and a nephew, Joel Hinkle of Murphy. She was a retired seamstress and worked with her husband in the restaurant business in Jacksonville, FL until they moved to Etowah, NC where they lived for more than 20 years before moving to this area two years ago. Visitation will be Thursday, July 16 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. The funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 17 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Welcome with Pastor E. Mark Blair officiating. The committal service will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Dana Steadman, R.N. with Hospice of Davidson County Staff and Bess Moorefiled for their care and support given to Mrs. Brown. Our appreciation also to Dr. Terry Arnold and Staff. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 or to your favorite charity.
