Mrs. Evon Lovett Parker, 93, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023. She was born April 3, 1930, in Surry County, NC to the late Claude and Bertha Ray. Evon was a longtime member of New Friendship Baptist Church. Music was always a big part of her life. As a young woman she sang in a quartet, then at church she participated in the church choir, and in her later years, she also enjoyed going to nursing homes to sing with her granddaughters. Evon retired from Piedmont Airlines as a secretary for the small engine base. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hinkle Hospice House for the loving care of Mrs. Parker the past week.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, James H. Lovett; second husband, William Parker; four sisters: Hazel Ray, Anna Burcham (Mason), Ruth Potter (Monty), and Betty Marion (Fred); and two brothers, Philip Ray (Daphine) and Roger Ray (Irene). Evon is survived by two sons, Gordon Lovett (Karen) and Keith Lovett (Amy); four granddaughters: Christie Lovett Morgan (Jason), Ashley Lovett, Alaina Lovett, and Harmony Lovett; and four great-grandchildren: Austin Herr, Noah Morgan, Hunter Morgan, and Jameson Whicker.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, August 19th at New Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Byrne officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hinckle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
