Everette Webster Berry, Jr.

KERNERSVILLE-Everette Webster Berry, Jr., 86, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at his home. He was born August 1, 1922 in Burke Co. to the late Violecta Cook and Everette W. Berry, Sr. Mr. Berry was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville. He was a United States Navy veteran. Everette was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5352, Masonic Lodge 669 where he received his 60 year certificate, Kernersville Moose Lodge 2181, and the Shriners of Winston Salem. He also was co-owner and president of Berry Water Gardens, which grew into the largest pet supply distributor in the United States during the 1970s. Everette was an avid golfer; he loved life and loved people. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marbelle Berry. Surviving are three sons, Sonny Berry and wife Debbie of Blue Ridge, VA, Jim Berry of Kernersville, and Jamie Berry of Belews Creek; six grandchildren, Rhett Berry, Bruce Berry and wife Katie, Carter Berry, Alyn Berry, Mandy Cheek and husband Jeremy, Beth Berry and husband Joe Sheets; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Brown of Kernersville. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, May 23, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Kernersville with Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Friday, May 22, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. Memorials may be made to the VFW Foundation, 406 West 34th St., Suite 514, Kansas City, MO 64111.
