Evelyn Steelman Wood

Evelyn Steelman Wood, 89, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at her residence. Evelyn was born August 21, 1924 in Burke County to the late James Monroe Steelman and Sally Joyner Steelman. She was a member of South Fork Baptist Church for the past 60 years where she was a very active and loyal member. Evelyn retired from AT&T with 17 years of loyal service. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and spending time with her 5 grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by husband, William Allen Wood, daughter, Carol Wood Brown, and infant son and daughter, James D. Wood and Ginger K. Wood. Evelyn is survived by two sons, Wayne Wood of Cary and Danny Wood and wife Angelia of Advance; five grandchildren, Jeff Wood and wife Jamie, Christina Wood, Daniel Wood, Ryan Brown, and Abby Brown; and a great-grandson David Wood. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held Monday, April 14, 2014 at 2 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Phil Beavers officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45 pm - 1:45 pm. Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
