Evelyn Wise Davis Williamson, age 88, passed away on December 7, 2011 at the Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC after a long period of declining health. She had been a resident of Brookridge since 2010, having previously resided in Asheville, NC for 66 years. Mrs. Williamson was born January 3, 1923 in Avery County, NC to the late Thurman Cleveland Wise and Missouri Weatherman Wise. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank E. Wise and Charles Earl Wise, by her first husband of 40 years, Homer V. Davis, and by her second husband of 4 years, Bill Williamson. After graduating from Crossnore High School and Johnson City Business College in Johnson City, TN, Mrs. Williamson moved to Asheville in 1944 where she worked for the US Government for 34 years until her retirement in 1978. She held positions with the Air Force Weather Service, Moore General Army Hospital, the Social Security Administration, and the Veterans Administration Hospital , where she worked as a medical secretary for the Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery and Research for many years. Mrs. Williamson was a faithful member of St Paul's United Methodist Church in Asheville for over 50 years where she served on many boards and committees and as an officer of the United Methodist Women. For more than 30 years, she served as a coordinator of the weekly senior citizens ministry at the church, and enriched many lives with her contributions to the older adults. In addition to her church work, Mrs. Williamson enjoyed needlework and crafts, travel, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her two grandsons. She will be remembered for her gentle, sweet spirit and the many acts of kindness she did for others. She was an outstanding and loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Williamson is survived by her daughter, Sherry Davis Gallisdorfer and husband Jeff of Lewisville, NC; two grandsons, Scott and Corey Gallisdorfer; a sister Edna W. Davenport of Wendell, NC; eight nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on December 22, 2011 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
