Evelyn Shelton Riggs

Evelyn Shelton Riggs, 79, has gone home to Jesus and her loved ones on Thursday, May 25, 2023, under the care of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on May 31, 1943, to the late John Ausby and Minnie Lee Lawson Shelton. Married August 18, 1969, to Mr. Herman Odell Riggs until January 2, 1998, when he quietly slipped into glory. She attended Stokesdale High School and graduated on May 31, 1961. She retired from Burlington Industries at Mount Olive, NC. Evelyn was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church, Piney Grove, Kernersville as well as a member of the Gideons Auxiliary. She also organized senior citizens groups and outings- she loved her ministry. Evelyn will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Odell Rigg; five brothers William Akres Shelton, Edgar Worth Shelton, sister-in-law, Lois Shelton, Curtis Lloyd (Betty) Shelton, Johnny Winfred (Ann) Shelton, and Ernest Shelton; and sister-in-law Mary Southern Shelton.

Evelyn is survived by one brother, Thomas Lester (Patricia) Shelton of Concord, NC; sister-in-law Linda Shelton; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nieces, and great-nieces, and great-nephews which she loved immensely and who adored her.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Terry Faulkenbury, Lester Shelton, and Pastor Greg Mullis officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. A visitation will be from 10:30 AM – 11:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
