Evelyn Vaden Nelson

Mrs. Nancy Evelyn Vaden Nelson, 93, of King, NC, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 17, 2017. Evelyn was born in Stokes County on May 25, 1923, to the late Royal Sandy Vaden and Nannie Jones Vaden. Evelyn worked hard her entire life to provide a loving home for her and her beloved husband, B.J. and their seven children. Everyone that ever spent time with Evelyn became family to her and she welcomed them into her home. They wouldn't be able to leave her home with an empty stomach. She was famous for her home cooked meals, jams, desserts and much more. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by the love of her life, B.J. Nelson; two sisters, Lucille Young and Vivian Vaden; and two brothers, Bill and Jones Vaden. Evelyn is survived by seven children, Barry Nelson (Doris), Bonnie Kiser (Bubby), Ken Nelson (Kathy), Kay Wall (Jimmie), Dale Nelson (Tracey), Pam Doomy, and Tim Nelson; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Mickey (Norman); a special cousin, Shirley Ann Gunnell; a special friend and neighbor, Gaynell Hill; and numerous other loving relatives. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 20, 2017, at Stoney Ridge Baptist Church in Westfield, NC with Rev. Dean White officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stoney Ridge Baptist Church at 1010 Stoney Ridge Baptist Church Rd, Westfield, NC 27053 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Evelyn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her but her family is grateful that she is once again with B.J. so their love affair can continue for eternity.
