Evelyn Louise Davis

EVELYN LOUISE DAVIS would want you to know that her faith, family and friends were the most important things in her life. From humble beginnings in the mountains of North Carolina, she went to Johnson Bible College in Tennessee, where she met the love of her life, Rev. Dr. Willie Edward Davis, to whom she was married for 57 years. Known to all as a strong Christian wife and mother, Evelyn was a support to her husband's ministry above and beyond the parameters of a minister's wife. She was a source of comfort, strength and motivation to her children and continued that guidance to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her unanticipated sense of humor brought joy to those around her. Evelyn was a life-long member of Disciples of Christ, most recently worshipping with Pfafftown Christian Church and First Christian Church in Winston-Salem. She also enjoyed membership in the Grandview Garden Club, Vienna Civic Center, and Fellowship of Christian Women. She was a rare female recipient of the Lion's Club's Jack Stickley Award. She was predeceased by her parents, Harley and Virgie Haynes; her husband, Dr. Davis; and granddaughter, Jenifer VanderWall; two brothers Clayton Haynes and Joe Haynes and a sister, Naomi Waddell. She is survived by two sisters, Lillian Messer (Herman) of Asheville, and Yvonne Hannah (Carl) of Hendersonville; her daughters, Ginny Hinson of Dallas, Texas; Louise Moore (Edward), of Lynchburg, Virginia; Barbara Gandy (Daniel) of Statesville; and Freda Ward (Randy) of Colleyville, Texas. Surviving grandchildren are Tamara Robinson (Brett), Edward Moore, Jr. (Jen), Richmond Moore (Cathie), Will Moore, Blake VanderWall, Nathan VanderWall, Jacqueline Ward, Sterling Ward, and four great-grandchildren. Evelyn, a resident of Salemtowne, died Monday, November 24, at age 81. Visitation will be at Pfafftown Christian Church at 1:30 on Friday, November 28, followed by the funeral at 3:00 pm. Those wishing to honor Evelyn can send memorials to the Jenifer A.VanderWall Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O.Box 3511, Mooresville, NC. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
