Evelyn Matthews Crews

KERNERSVILLE-Evelyn Matthews Crews, 99, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 9, 2008 at her home. She was born April 11, 1909 in Kernersville to the late Charles L. and Levie Vance Matthews. She was a longtime member of Pisgah United Methodist Church where she was known as the beautiful smiling lady. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Crosby E. Crews; a treasured son, Wade A. Crews; a son-in-law, Jesse E. Smith, and seven siblings. Surviving are two daughters, Jeanette Crews, and Brenda Smith; one daughter-in-law, Mary P. Crews; four grandchildren, Bonnie (Keith) Hyatt, Brian Crews, Tyndall (Charlotte) Smith, and Stan (Michele) Smith; two great-grandchildren, Melissa Ellen Hyatt and Evelyn Claire Smith; also a special person in her life, Maggie S. Stout. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Pisgah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Sammons and the Rev. Harold Shives officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2165 Pisgah Church Rd., Kernersville, NC 27284 or charity of the donor's choice.
