Mrs. Evelyn Poindexter Boles, 87, of Clemmons, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016. She was born May 13, 1928 to Maggie Stilley Poindexter and Will Sampson Poindexter. Mrs. Boles graduated from Clemmons School in 1946. She was married 52 years to Glenn Dalton Boles before his death on September 14, 1998. During retirement, they traveled with the Holiday Ramblers and Good Sams Clubs and enjoyed vacationing in Sparta with friends Roy and Helen Gray. She had a special neighbor and church friend, Ailene Miller. Mrs. Boles could tell great stories about her adventures with her grandchildren. She did crewel embroidery, crocheting afghans and doilies, and other crafts. Mrs. Boles worked most of her life as a housewife raising five children, growing vegetables, canning, caring for farm animals, and running an oyster and tobacco business with her husband. Mrs. Boles was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church where she sang alto in the choir until her health declined. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ronnie Boles; siblings, Mamie Sales, Edith Walker, Bill Poindexter, Ethel Brewer, Snitz Rothrock, Betty Miller and Shirley Watkins. Surviving are four children, Glenda Todd (Wayne), William Francis Boles (Kay), Evelyn ""Lyn"" Merritt (Larry) and Danny Boles (Penny); ten grandchildren, Michelle Davis (Kevin), Steve Boles (Jana), Donna Barber, Bradley Merritt (Ashley), Melissa Davis (Matt), Lori Harris (Luke), Joseph Boles (Jennifer), Lindsay Steele (Marc), Jessica Moorefield (Cassidy) and Katie Maxey (Greg); fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandson and one brother, Bobby Poindexter. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Dr. Mary Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory-Clemmons. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses at Forsyth Medical Center and Trinity Elms Rehabilitation for their care during Mrs. Boles' lengthy illness. Memorials may be made to the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission.
