WINSTON SALEM-Evelyn Kimball Bartelt, 90, daughter of Marcus Jan Offers and Evelyn Sabra Fellows Offers, church musician, composer and piano teacher, who had been active in many civic and music organizations, including Maryland State Music Teachers Assn (Charter Member), and NARFE, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2009 after an illness at Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, Winston-Salem, where she resided since 2002. She was mother to Brian Bartelt (Pamela), Montclair, VA; Joan Weaver (George), Kernersville, NC; and Karen Bona (Skip), Woodbridge, VA, grandmother of Gavin, Maureen, Clayton, Kirsten, Douglas and Conley, and great grandmother of Kyra. A gifted musician and composer, she wrote many hymns, of which six were published. She taught piano for 20 years in Oxon Hill Maryland and her pupils participated in county competitions and the National Piano Guild Auditions. She also served as music director at Welaka Methodist Church in Florida. Her writing talents included editor of the newsletter at Faith Lutheran Church in Oxon Hill, neighborhood columnist for a local paper, publicity chairman for several organizations, and correspondent to hundreds of people, some famous, she met in her lifetime. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Autrey officiating. Evelyn, a gracious and beautiful lady, will be remembered by all who knew her for her exceptional kindness, warmth, and giving nature. Hayworth Miller Kernersville is assisting the Bartelt family.
