Evelyn Combs Apple

OAK RIDGE-Evelyn Combs Apple, 86, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at her home. She was born April 12, 1925 in Guilford Co. to the late Luther Pepper and Della Pegram Combs. Mrs. Apple was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church, and sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid gardener and loved her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wade Harlee Apple; four sisters, Pauline, Avalee, Eva, and Mabel; and one brother, Lloyd. Surviving are her daughter, Susan and husband, Claude Allen of Oak Ridge; a son, Garfield Apple and wife, Sherry of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) and Brad (Jamie) all of Oak Ridge, Ryan (Dana) of Greensboro, Trinity (Eric) Spurlock, and Megan (Mike) Beck all of Kernersville; eleven great-grandchildren, Courtney and Jake, Kelly and Grant, Garfield and Wade, Sophia and Tenley, Maggie and Miller, and Kaydence; one sister, Mary Blackburn of Kernersville; and one brother, Norman Combs of Kernersville. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 4:00 pm Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Danny Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
