Evanthia Papadopoulos Mastoras

Evanthia Papadopoulos Mastoras, 97, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away Friday night, October 19, 2012. She was born in the village of Fithakia in Evrytania, Greece in 1915 to the parents, Athanasios and Maria Papadopoulos and was one of 6 children. Evanthia was an active member in the Greek Orthodox Church and very involved in the Ladies of Philoptochos. Her life was always centered around, family, church and her community which was evident by the unconditional love she gave to everyone. Her home was a loving and safe place where family and friends visited daily. Evanthia welcomed everyone with open arms and would never allow anyone to leave her home empty handed. She was well known for her talent in the Kitchen and always seemed to have extra guests drop by when she prepared freshly baked bread and Greek pastries. Just like her presence, her food was comforting and warmed our hearts. Evanthia, or ""Yiayia"" was also known for her kindness, patience, and engaging listeners with stories of her family, friends, and earlier years of life. Evanthia was married to the late George Mastoras, Surviving are her 3 children, Irene Moutos, Bill Mastoras, Pete (Dina) Mastoras; five grandchildren, Fred Moutos, George ( Stamey) Moutos, Timothy Moutos, Eva Mastoras, Maria Mastoras; five great grandchildren, a brother, Evangelos (Mary) Papadopoulos, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. The Family will receive friends from 7-8:00 pm Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, with the Trisagion Service beginng at 7:30 pm. The Funeral Service will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday, October 22 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church officiated by Father Demetri Kangelaris. Burial will follow in the Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the Mastoras Family. Online condolences may be made at hayworth-miller.com
