Eugene "Gene" Bezilla

Eugene (Gene) Bezilla, 83, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2022, after a short battle with Glioblastoma (brain cancer). Gene was a devoted caregiver to his wife of 55 years, Donna, a dependable and loving father and father-in-law, a proud Papa to his five grandchildren and an instant friend to anyone he met. He was always ready with a joke or a quick-witted comment.

Gene was born to George and Hannah Bezilla on March 17, 1939. He served in the United States Air Force before marrying Donna in 1966 and starting his career in electronic components and sales. He enjoyed "tinkering" around his garage and could fix just about anything put in front of him. He loved to spend time outdoors and, in his retirement, enjoyed traveling with Donna.

His proudest accomplishment was being a Papa. The sheer joy he found in his grandkids could be seen in his face, which lit up anytime he was around them. He was a "silly Papa”, and all the kids loved his teasing.

Gene is survived by his wife Donna; his four children, Brian (Joni), Brad (April), Beth (Neil) Currie and Bridget (Jason) Meggs; his four grandchildren, Katie, James, Emery and Graham; his sister Cathy (John) Martin and many loving family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, a baby sister; his granddaughter, Alexis Grace; and his brother, William Bezilla.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 2:00pm at Jesus our Risen Savior in Spartanburg, SC. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
