Eugene Bobbitt McBride, Jr.
Clemmons, NC

March 12, 1923 to February 24, 2015
Eugene Bobbitt McBride, Jr., 91 of Clemmons, NC, departed his earthly home to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in His eternal home on February 24, 2015. Mr. McBride was born March 12, 1923 in Surry County, NC, son of the late Eugene Bobbitt McBride, Sr. and Agnes Elizabeth Newsome.
McBride was a graduate of Hanes High School 1942. He was inducted into the Navy October 1943. After graduating from Aviation Ordinance Mechanical School in Baltimore, Maryland, he was then stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. He and the girl of his dreams from back home (Doris Kathryn Gentle), were married in the Naval Base Chapel in Jacksonville June 30, 1945. A veteran of WWII, McBride always joked that his wife became a bride three times on the day of their marriage; a June bride, a War bride and a Mac bride! He made the Flight of Honor trip to Washington, DC in 2010, one of his greatest adventures and joys.
McBride retired in 1985 after 30 years as a sheet metal mechanic for the former Piedmont Airlines/US Airways. He was a wonderful and devoted husband and dad who loved his family dearly. He enjoyed many hobbies. He especially liked tent and RV camping, hiking and gardening, and acquired many skills with artistic metal sculpting. He was always active in his church and community in leadership roles. Eugene loved to sing his beloved old Irish tunes and hymns. He and Doris sang in their church choir for nearly 60 years and as a team, for several years they were leaders of the Young at Heart organization at Northwest Baptist Church where they were members for most of their married years. He was always anxious to pack up the church bus and drive his fellow seniors on day excursions, always singing behind the wheel. He dearly cherished the fellowship of his church family.
McBride is predeceased in death by a sister, Winifred McBride Wilkins and a brother John R. McBride. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris Kathryn Gentle McBride. Also surviving are three daughters and one son, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Diane and Lee Smith (Allison); Kathy and Sam Dotson (Bradley and Tina Dotson, Carrie), (Gena and Ron Hargis, Eva, Avery, Ellison and Mary Bryce); Jennifer and Rich Cavanaugh (Drew) and Brad (Jason and Julie McBride, Julianna and Connor), (Darla Gutshall and Emma). Caleb and Joshua McBride.
