Etta Mae Holleman Maynard died Sunday, May 16, 2021. She was born August 17, 1923 to Willie S. Holleman and Florence V. Brown Holleman. One of 15 children, she was raised and lived in Yadkin county until moving to Winston-Salem in the 1950’s. She married her school days boyfriend, Ray Williams Maynard and they were married for 41 years until Ray’s death in 1980. They had two children, Donald Ray Maynard and Patty Sue Maynard Hill, both of whom preceded her in death. Etta was a long-time employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired after more than 30 years in Quality Control. An avid gardener, she tended an impressive yearly vegetable garden and grew some of the most beautiful peonies imaginable. She loved to travel but especially loved the beaches of North Carolina. Etta spent many days attending sports events for both of her children and grandchildren. Immensely dedicated to her family, she strived to ensure the success and wellbeing of her children and grandchildren. Her home was always open to friends and family and she especially loved a good conversation and sweet tea on the porch. Etta is survived by her sister Pam Patton, son-in-law Gary Hill, Sr., grandchildren Melissa Maynard, Gary Hill, Jr. (Angela), Christopher Hill (Debbie), Caroline Hill McHale (Ryan), six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family is being assisted by Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel and will host a graveside service at 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Parklawn Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, N.C. with Dr. Mary Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church (Love fund), 4265 Ebert Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
