WINSTON-SALEM--Etta Mae Cundiff Ebert was received by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 1:30 am while at home on Saturday, April 27, 2013. She was born in Surry County on August 16, 1935 to Julius Melton Cundiff and Stacy Eliza Spencer Cundiff who proceeded her in going home. Surviving Etta are her husband of 57 years, Jimmy M. Ebert and her beloved daughters; Jann E. Shermer and husband Nelson; Traci E. Young and husband Rodney; Jill E. Eisel and husband Dayton. Brian Milton Ebert, her beloved son, died in an industrial accident on December 22, 1999. Etta's family was very dear to her. She loved gift giving on every occasion to her precious grandchildren; Melia Saintsing and husband Brian; Jade Smith; Joshua, Spencer, Taylor and Mitchell Young; Gabriel and Calvin Beck; Brittany and Brian Shermer; as well as her great grandchildren, Carson and Kyndall Saintsing; Alexander Young and Conner McBride. Etta is also survived by a brother, Gary Cundiff and his wife Rita, as well as many relatives in Mt. Airy. Etta was raised in Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Mt. Airy and later joined Friedberg Moravian church in 1983. She served her Lord by attending Bible study, being a member of Senior Friends, singing in the Senior Friends Chorus and serving on the Evangelism Committee. She was active as long as her health allowed. Etta attended North Main Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1953. She was a registered nurse, having attended City Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and graduating at the top of her class from Forsyth Technical School of Nursing. Etta was a pediatric head nurse at Baptist Hospital for 6 years and then became the Director of Nursing at the Moravian Home. She was instrumental in the development of the triage program at Winston-Salem Health Care. She was also a private duty nurse prior to her retirement. Etta enjoyed watching and feeding birds, reading, travel, crafting dolls and greeting cards, panting, collecting old composition dolls, serving, and smocking. Most of all she cherished her family. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and Rev. Betty Helms officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, and all of our family and friends who have lovingly showered us with food, flowers, visits, cards and love.
