Greensboro-Ethel Williams Nelson, 65, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital after she had defeated cancer. She was born March 13, 1944 in Guilford Co. to Otilla Morton Williams and the late William Williams. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Guilford Baptist Church, but attended Hopewell Wesleyan Church for the past 10 years. She graduated from Bessemer High School and had retired from Friends Homes as a nurse's assistant after 18 years of employment. Ethel was an avid bowler. She loved people and many types of flowers. In addition to her mother of the home, surviving are her husband, William H. Nelson, Sr. of the home; two sons, William Nelson Jr. and wife, Andrea of Summerfield, Todd Louis Nelson and wife, Shanon of Stokesdale; two grandchildren, Skyler and Jeremy; two brothers, William Morton Williams of Greensboro and Richard Williams of Reidsville. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with the Rev. G.K. Andrews and the Rev. Evon Pulliam officiating. Burial will follow in Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to either Hopewell Wesleyan Church, 2825 Pleasant Ridge Rd., Summerfield, NC 27358, or American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Dr., Greensboro, NC 27407.
