Mrs. Ethel Raymer Briggs, 92, of Elkin, formerly of Winston-Salem died Tuesday October 26, 2010 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was born March 13, 1918 in Iredell County, the daughter of the late, Dewey L. Raymer and Ethel Barker Raymer. Mrs. Briggs was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church, a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Mrs. Briggs served with the Red Cross during WWII. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Holt Briggs, a daughter, Beverly Hanna, four brothers and a sister. Survivors include her two sons, Bill Briggs (Gail) of Arlington, VA and Charles Briggs (Maria) of State Road, NC; six grandchildren, Chris Briggs (Leakhana), Jeff Briggs, Gracie Briggs, Ella Briggs, Will Briggs, Robert Hanna; one great-grandson Owen Briggs; one brother Bill Raymer of Statesville and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 29 at Augsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Shirley Harrison officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
