Eston Hill

Eston Hill, 4 years old, of Winston-Salem, passed away after a brief illness.

Eston was born in Bangor, Maine to Alicia Maria Woods (nee Russo). When Eston was two, his grandmother, Debra Barbour, became his legal guardian after spending months in the hospital with him in 2019. In April of 2020, he joined the Harrington household and legally became part of the family in August of 2021.

In May 2021, shortly after receiving a tracheostomy, ventilator, and central line for nutrition, Eston was diagnosed with Geleophysic Dysplasia, caused by a mutation of FBN1 gene. This is a rare multisystem disorder affecting the bones, joints, heart, and skin. This was the cause of his short stature and 'jolly' appearance. He was cared for by many amazing professionals of Brenner Children's Hospital from 2020-2021. This included BRIDGE clinic, cardiology, Enhanced Care Team, genetics, nephrology, pulmonology, ENT and surgery. Prior to this, Duke University Hospital had cared for him through his 2019 illness.

Eston is survived by his “mama” Ashley Harrington, “nana”, Anna Butler; “sissy”, Amor; caregiver, Hannah Collins; grandma, Debra Barbour; grandparents, Marvin Elijah and Samantha Mauerman; aunt, Trisha Casebeer; uncle, Maxwell Elijah; and a team of wonderful and dedicated home care nurses, as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapists.

Eston had a radiant smile that lit up the room. He never let anything steal away his happiness for very long. His playful demeanor inspired all of us even through the roughest procedures and moments in life. Eston truly loved to make people laugh. His life may have been short, but it was truly memorable. He enjoyed Blippi and other educational YouTube videos, which he sought without help; driving his Lamborghini to occupational therapy; and showing everybody his colors, letters, numbers and shapes.

A private Celebration of Eston’s Life will be held ay Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
