Estlene White Hutchins of Stuart, Va, and until just a few months ago, of Bermuda Run, NC, passed away in her sleep peacefully, but unexpectedly, in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, April 20. (Estlene was also known by many friends as “Bubbles,” a nickname her husband affectionately gave her before they were even married because he thought she was always so “bubbly”.) She was born in Dobson, NC, on August 29, 1926, to Coley A. White and Ola Mozelle Dockery White. However, she lived most of her life in the Winston-Salem area, a city she always loved. She was a graduate of the old Hanes High School in Winston-Salem. At graduation, she received the Montague Medal for having the highest GPA of any senior in the W-S City School System. On December 17, 1946, she married Grady Aldine Hutchins, Jr, also from Winston-Salem, and spent the remainder of her life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. For the past 36 years, until last August, Estlene had lived with her husband in Bermuda Run and attended Clemmons United Methodist Church-a church that she dearly loved.Mrs. Hutchins was preceded in death by her parents and her only sister, Melissa Anne Livengood. Surviving are Grady Aldine Hutchins, her devoted husband of almost 68 years, as well as her daughter Janis Goad and son-in-law Bill Goad of Stuart, VA, both of whom adored her and with whom she was living when she died. Additionally, she is survived by her son Steven Grady Hutchins of Winston-Salem, NC; her “adopted” daughter Nancy Griffith (David); two grandchildren-Christopher Michalec of Bermuda Run, NC,(Elizabeth Riley Michalec); and Ashley Goad of Shreveport, LA; Brother-in-law Archer D. Livengood, Sr; a nephew, Archer D. Livengood, Jr, of Mocksville, NC; and one grieving grand-dog, Kalil, of the home. Mrs. Hutchins donated her body to Wake Forest Bowman Gray School of Medicine. A memorial service commemorating a life well-lived for the Lord will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 3pm at Clemmons United Methodist Church in Clemmons, NC. with the Rev. Paula Northrup and Rev. Matthew Burton officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Clemmons United Methodist Church.
