Esther Klutz George

Esther Klutz George, 96, passed away peacefully and has gone 'to live in Victory'on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, surrounded by her loving family. She was born, December 27, 1916 in China Grove, NC, and was the first child born of Paul and Mary Klutz. At the age of one, she moved to Winston-Salem and resided there until her death. Mrs. George attended Griffith School and was Captain of the girls' high school Basketball team during the 1931-32 school year. She was very active in her church, Memorial Reformed Church in Winston-Salem. She served many years on the Consistory Board, President of the Women's Guild and Circle, and was an adult Sunday school teacher. Mrs. George retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system after serving 30 plus years. She began as a cafeteria worker and later became cafeteria supervisor over 14 schools. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with friends and the Senior Citizen's group at Christ Moravian Church. She also volunteered many hours sewing for residents at Salem Towne. She was always ready to organize and cook dinners for those in need and taught her family how to cook. She readily answered cooking questions for anyone that asked, and contributed many of her recipes to church cookbooks in the area. But above all, she loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.Mrs. George was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Moir Odell George; her daughter, Cleo George Baity; two sisters, Francis Sink and Annie Mae Joyner; and one brother, L.D. Klutz and wife Sara.She is survived by her son, Clyde George and wife Pat of Winston-Salem; son-in-law, John D. Baity of Clemmons; six grandchildren: Amy George Berry and husband Jason of Clemmons; Susan Baity Horton and husband Marshall of Winston-Salem; David Baity and wife Eileen of Knoxville, TN; Steven G. Baity and special friend Beth Crumpler of Clemmons; Rhonda Stillwell of Charlotte, and Jeff Murphy and wife Monica of Madison, NC; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Helen Cheek of Hamptonville, NC; Dorothy Hodges of Mt. Airy, NC; one brother, Dan Klutz and wife Joan of Lexington, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and doctors of Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem, with a very special thank you to Dr. Kim Kinsley. She was a blessing to our family during this time. We are also grateful to the staff at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living in Clemmons. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Kate B. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Norwood Green and Chaplain Rennie Adcock officiating.
