Mrs. Esther Wilma Smith Cook, age 90 went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, May 16, 2016 at Autumn Care in Mocksville. Esther was born in Lee County, July 1, 1925 to Marvin Edgar Smith and Otis Lee Womble Smith. She was a member at First Baptist Church in Mocksville for over fifty years. Esther enjoyed taking trips with her church (Young at Heart) and visiting different nursing homes. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Davie County for many years. Esther was known in the community for her beautiful roses she enjoyed growing and sharing with friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel ""Sam"" Thomas Cook, Sr., four sisters and two brothers. Esther is survived by four children; Samuel Thomas ""Tommy"" Cook, Jr. and wife Gayle of Winston-Salem, Terry Ray Cook and wife Sheila of Westfield, Teresa Cook Bumgarner and husband James and Tony Marvin Cook and wife Lynn both of Mocksville. Six grandchildren; McKenzie, Kimberly, Kelly, Brook, Alicia and Ashley. Five Step-grandchildren; Christy, Kenny, A.J., Courtney and Corey. Two sisters; Ollie Cox and Lucy Kelly both of Sanford. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Esther will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Mocksville by Rev. Shane Nixon. Burial will follow in the Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 12:00 until 1:30 P.M.
