BATES Mrs. Esther White Bates, 91, of Winston-Salem died Monday, August 9, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born January 3, 1919 in Davidson County, the daughter of the late John Adam and Lela Rothrock White. Mrs. Bates was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Tabernacle in Kernersville where she attended while her health permitted. She retired from Hanes Knitting following 35 years of service. After her retirement she worked at K&W Cafeteria on Healey Drive until she was 80. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Roy ""Pete"" Bates of the home; one daughter, Sue Farley and husband, Eddie of Kernersville; one granddaughter, Lisa Goode and husband, Joe of Germanton; two great grandchildren, Tony and Felicia; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. David Neese officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
