Estelle Kimel Mecham went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. She was born on April 4, 1921 to the late Oscar and Charlie Kimel of Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Helen Kimel Wilson (E.E. Wilson) and Mildred Kimel Linville (Craig Linville) and her husband of 43 years, Ross L. Mecham, Sr of Lincoln, Nebraska. Born in Winston-Salem, she attended Gray and Hanes High School and was in the first graduating class of Hanes. Always mindful of duty, she joined the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WACC) shortly after the outbreak of WWII. It was while serving her country that she met her husband and converted him into a forever North Carolina native. She was a long time employee of Sears Roebuck and was very active in the Sears Retirees group. Mrs. Mecham was an active member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem for more than 60 years and made certain that her family knew and served the Lord. She is survived by four children, Ross L. Mecham, Jr (Sara Fields Mecham), Susan Mecham Anderson, Donna Mecham Tally (Steve Tally), and Glenda Mecham Bridges (Will Bridges), seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sister Lettie Mae Kimel Howard (Bailey Howard, Sr), and numerous nieces and nephews who all treasured time spent with her. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Friday, September 24, 2010 at Forsyth Memorial Park, Old Yadkinville Rd with the Reverend Terry Matthews officiating. A visitation for the family and friends will be held at Maple Springs United Methodist Church, 2569 Reynolda Rd, Winston-Salem immediately following the graveside service.
