Ernie Kennedy

Kernersville – Ernie Kennedy, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at his home. He was born on February 24, 1946 in Honaker, Virginia to Walter and Tiney Kennedy. Ernie was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid sports fan and had an extensive baseball card collection. He enjoyed golfing with his friends.  Ernie volunteered for over 25 years with the East Forsyth High School football program. He also loved spending time with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. Ernie was recently baptized into Christ and was a member of the Linville Forest Church of Christ.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Ellen Kennedy; two sons, Jeff Kennedy (wife, Erin) and Mike Kennedy (wife, Kim); four grandchildren, Maddie, Cole, Brandon, and Ethan Kennedy; two brothers, Kermit Kennedy (wife, Jeannie) and Lowell Kennedy (wife, Twyla); and special nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Minister Kelly Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at the National Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may made to Trellis Supportive Care at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Ernie’s special caregivers, Amanda, Cheryl, Carol, and Freda as well as their church family, friends, and neighbors.
