Ernest Wayne Stewart, 75, of Germanton, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 1, 2025. Mr. Stewart was born on December 20, 1949, to the late Ernest David Stewart, and Betty Ring Stewart. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Paula (Chi Ku) Stewart, stepmother, Jacqueline G. Stewart, and sister, Jackie Sue Greene. Surviving are his siblings: Scotty E. Stewart, Denny F. Stewart (Marlene), Michael B. Stewart, Robin S. Ayers (Arvin), and Angela D. Stewart. Numerous nieces and nephews, and one special niece he was very close to, Kallie B. Stewart. Several close friends including, Fred White, Ben Webb, Tootie & Linda Fearrington, Wayne Pope, and Chris Mitchell. A close church family who loved and prayed faithfully for him, and our family. Mr. Stewart entered the United States Air Force in 1969, and proudly served his country in South Korea, as part of a combat support group during the Vietnam War. He was an insightful historian and was renowned for explaining battles and military strategies as far back as the Civil War. Mr. Stewart was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He was a decades long member of Deerfield Plantation Hunting Club of Bertie County. He enjoyed his time with his “hunting brothers”, whom he referred to as his chosen family, and loved each of them dearly. Hours were spent sitting and listening to hunting tales, laughing, and enjoying time together. Ernest grew up a tradesman and spent his life in the construction industry. His father had Ernest and his brothers on a roof almost as soon as they were able to walk. He spent years sharing his skills and love of woodworking, building homes, new construction, and hotels. He also enjoyed making smaller things for those closest to him like swings, jewelry boxes, desks, benches, etc. Ernest was saved by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 1974. He dedicated his life to following God’s will in 1989 and announced his call to preach in 1990. He received his Associates Degree in Biblical Studies in 1993, and his Master’s Degree in 1997. He was an active member of Crestwood Baptist Church where he served faithfully as part of the church’s leadership, Leader of the Finance and Maintenance Teams, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Mentor, Preacher, and Prayer Warrior. In addition, Mr. Stewart began Sowing Seeds Ministry at Crestwood Baptist Church. Sowing Seeds collects used Bibles and Christian literature and with the cooperation of Harvest Seeds and Love Packages, sends this material world-wide to reach the lost. The family would like to thank Dr. Randall Keith, Dr. Ileana Jacks, Trellis Supportive Care, and his nurse, Heather Woods, for their kindness, compassion, and care during his illness. Mr. Stewart will be laid to rest at the National Veteran Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. A Celebration of his beautiful life will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Crestwood Baptist Church, located at 530 Motor Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. The family will receive friends from 11:00am-12 noon, Service to follow starting at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Crestwood Baptist Church.
