Ernest Rogers, Jr.

Mr. Ernest Rogers, Jr., 83 passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He was born June 20, 1930 in Stokes County to Robert Ernest and Annie Ruth Hall Rogers. Ernest spent most of his career in the consumer products sales industry and retired from Carolina Brokers, Inc. of Charlotte, NC in 1991.

He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. One of his great joys was sharing fruits and vegetables with friends and neighbors. He was a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem and served the church in many capacities. After moving to Stokes County, he became a member of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church in Flat Rock, NC. In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Rogers Johnson and a brother, Bobby Rogers.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patsy Sheppard Rogers; one daughter, Robin (Kevin) Spainhour; one son, Robert (Deborah) Rogers; one son-in-law, Dr. Terry Johnson; three grandsons, Zachary and Samuel (Katherine) Johnson and Landon Rogers; two sisters, Betty Ruth (Kodell) Shelton and Agnes Young; two brothers, Ben (Sandy) Rogers and John (Connie) Rogers. Many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Mr. Rogers will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem with Wilburn Rives of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church and Rev. Emily and Rev. Eric Larson of St. Andrews Presbyterian officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Old Hickory Council, Boy Scouts of America, 6600 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Dr. David Tarter and Staff at Novant Health and also to the Staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
