Mr. Ernest Hoover Robbins, 82, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 at Regency Care of Clemmons. Mr. Robbins was born in Wilson County on February 1, 1929 to Joseph ""Joe"" and Sallie Robbins. He was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church and attended as long as his health permitted. Mr. Robbins retired from Fisher Steel with more than 35 years of service. Mr. Robbins was a true classic car enthusiast, spending much of his time restoring these classic cars. He enjoyed welding in his spare time and was known for his ""Tin Man"", from the Wizard of Oz"", which he gave to friends, car club members and rest home residents. Mr. Robbins also enjoyed volunteering with the Boy Scouts. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Eulala Bradley Robbins. Mr. Robbins is survived by his daughter, Shirley Tharpe and husband Kermit of Clemmons; a grandson, Derrick Tharpe and wife Kristine of Winston-Salem; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Tharpe, and Jack and Sean Coats; four sisters, Frances Page of Bailey, Dala Batts and husband Whitey of Elm City, Jean Williams of Chesapeake, VA, and Faye Taylor and husband Larry of Fayetteville; and a brother, Dan Robbins of Elm City. A service will be held 11:00 am Monday, October 10, 2011 at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
