Ernest Richard Burton

KERNERSVILLE-Ernest Richard Burton, 79, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at his home. He was born August 28, 1930 in Guilford Co. to the late Oscar and Oshea Edwards Burton. Mr. Burton was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and Brother Frank's Class. He served in the United States Navy for four years and retired in 1986 from R.J. Reynolds after thirty five years of employment. Ernest enjoyed fishing at the coast and being with his family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Leon Burton. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mattie Louise Burton of the home; two daughters, Deborah Goode and husband, Alton, Lynn Clinard and husband Bill; one son, Mark Burton and wife, Beth; six grandchildren, Heather Davis and husband, Darren, Chrystal Tilley and husband, Tommy, Michael Shelton and wife, Nikki; Chad Clinard, Stephanie Martin and husband, Donnie, and Sara Burton; three great- granddaughters, Lacy, Alexia, and Maggie Davis; one great-grandson, Michael Lee Shelton; one brother, Parker Burton; A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson, the Rev. Frank Shumate, and the Rev. Ken Overby officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 prior to the service. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Pallative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103 Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Burton family.
