FOSTER
Mrs. Erma Louise Joyner Foster, aged 92, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Foster born May 31, 1922 in Portsmouth, Ohio to John Larkin and Glendora Douglas Joyner. Both parents were native North Carolinians, and following Mr. Joyner's death, the family returned to Winston-Salem, where Mrs. Foster grew up surrounded by extended family. She was a graduate of Gray High School. She married Thomas M. ""Bill"" Foster on April 4, 1941. She and Mr. Foster were long-time active members of Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church. Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her husband and her only daughter, Glenda Jane Foster Sapp, as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence L. and Zelpha Lee (Wishon) Joyner, and her sister and brother-in-law, Harold and Frances (Joyner Jones) Lemons all of Winston-Salem. She also had an older brother, Harold R. Joyner, and an older sister, Gladys Joyner Melton, who are deceased. Her son-in-law, Jim Sapp of Winston-Salem, survives her. She has grandchildren, Jeffrey and Gretchen Peoples of South Port, James ""Wink"" and Scotty Sapp of Winston-Salem, and Jonathan F. Sapp and his partner, Daniell of Winston-Salem. She leaves three great-grandchildren, Caroline Peoples, Hunter Sapp and Juliet Sapp. Two nieces, Mrs. Marvin (Janet Jones) Crater and Mrs. George (Joyce Joyner) Williams, one brother- in- law Jimmy Foster, as well as several great nieces and nephews, will miss her inspiring presence in their lives. Friends join the family in mourning; among them are Sherri Bates, Vicki Lowery and many special friends. Family and friends will remember the many ways Mrs. Foster demonstrated her love and concern for them, so often acting on, rather than speaking of, her devotion. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM at Salem Moravian Graveyard with Rev. Cheryl G. Cottingham and Rev. Norwood Green officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
