Eris Gardner Naylor

WINSTON-SALEM-Mrs. Eris Gardner Naylor passed away peacefully on March 28, 2014 at Salemtowne Moravian Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC at age 87. She was born in Rahway, NJ on June 7, 1926 and lived her early years there. Much of her adult life was spent in Berkeley Heights, NJ where she was elected to serve as tax collector until retiring to NC in 1988. She then quickly settled into the Winston-Salem community, where she made many new friends and was a faithful member of Highland Presbyterian Church. Eris was a dedicated and loving wife and mother of 4 children and always said that her family was her pride and joy. She most enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and especially treasured our family reunions over the years. She was always ready for an adventure and loved to travel, taking several special international trips during her retirement. Eris was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Cula Gardner, husband Robert Naylor, daughter Beth Olszewski, sister Arlene Shurts, and brother Robert Gardner. She is survived by her son Craig Naylor and wife Sharon of Chadds Ford, PA, son Drew Naylor and wife Lee Ann of Winston-Salem, NC, son Ward Naylor and wife Pam of Guilford, CT, and sister-in law Shirley Gardner of Tampa, FL. She was blessed by 9 grandchildren: H.D. Naylor (Christina), Cara Naylor (Leo Vazquez), Meredith Olszewski, Megan Foster (Chris), Marcy Sanders (Steven), Kristen Naylor, Sara Beth Naylor, Laura Naylor and Jenna Naylor, as well as 7 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several special nieces, nephews and friends. We will dearly miss her ever-present smile and laughter, her positive attitude and determination despite many challenges, and most of all, her unconditional love and support. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in the Smith Saal Center at Salemtowne Moravian Retirement Community. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service and 30 minutes following the service. At a later date to be determined, there will be a burial service at the Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Stewartsville, NJ, where she will be laid to rest next to her family members. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Highland Presbyterian Church, 2380 Cloverdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family of Mrs. Naylor. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
